Artist's Comments

I just got my college courses sorted out and i got a place on an art AS level course 8D! Ive never had any art tuition before and since i didnt do the art GCSE i have to produce a portfolio to be accepted so! This is the first piece, about 2 hours of work this morning, pencil sketch + watercolor!

Anyone have any constructive critiques on my traditional technique? This is only... my second ever watercolor painting? Maybe third xD; but yeah... advice please!

Ref used lightly from a dog book

Ermmmmmm traditional comissions like this? About $10 each +P& P? Note me 8D

Whippet <3 this is a lovely picture. The only thing I could say would be perhaps the neck could be a tad shorter and the rib cage come lower down (i.e. extending the coat slightly), but that's being very picky. You have shown a good understanding of anatomy in watercolour and I am sure that will be picked up on:3
I am sure you will do very well with your portfolio -I did GCSE and A-Level art myself. One aspect they tend to look for (although that may have just been my school) is originality more than 'making things that look nice' (and one-trick ponies). To make a nice variation, you could try drawing from several styles within your portfolio to show diverse capabilities-maybe some Franz Marc or the like to show abstract understanding, or symbolic sculptures if you have access to such materials. Life art and realism is always popular, especially the human form. Hope this is of help :3

that's very lovely - the anatomy and colouring is beautiful. critique: maybe darken shaded areas more?! but that's so minor, it's already lovely!

i did art gcse and the examiners are great fans of life/observational drawing. just a little piece of info :D
